  • This document serves as an example and guide for a family planning counseling model with a focus on gender and cultural relevance for services in indigenous and rural communities. This document describes the structure and theory that support the family planning counseling model with cultural relevance in the indigenous communities of Panama.

    The document is organized into six chapters, in addition to bibliographical references and annexes.

    The model described is aimed at the personnel of the Basic and Community Health Teams of the Indigenous Comarcas and Dispersed Rural Areas to provide counseling in contraception to women, men and / or couples in the communities. The model is part of the National Sexual and Reproductive Health Program of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Panama (MINSA). This model complements the CONE Strategy, which is based on a continuum of care that emphasizes the four pillars of safe motherhood, prioritizing community participation with a communication and action strategy for family planning as a preventive axis.

  • This document explains the methodology and validation process for the guidance model on family planning counseling with cultural relevance. This document presents the methodology, validation criteria, and type of audience, including adolescents.

  • The report provides an example of the validation process of the culturally relevant contraceptive guidance guide and its toolkit. The report presents the results of the four design and content validation workshops held between August and October 2014 with personnel responsible for contraception programs and indigenous promoters of sexual and reproductive health at the central, jurisdictional, hospital and operational levels of the Health Institute of the State of Chiapas (ISECH). It includes the results of operational validation in the use of contraceptive counseling materials by ISECH staff.
