About us
Building on malaria elimination efforts implemented in the region in recent years, the countries of Mesoamerica, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), developed and launched the Regional Malaria Elimination Initiative (RMEI) in 2018. The Initiative has planned activities until 2025 to consolidate the progress made in reaching elimination and create the conditions to prevent the reintroduction of malaria into the region.
The IDB, along with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic (COMISCA), including its Regional Coordination Mechanism, the Executive Directorate of the Mesoamerican Development and Integration Project (PM), and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) provides technical and operational assistance to the countries. Additionally, COMISCA and PM facilitate the monitoring of operations and results at the regional level.
